We are part of the world-wide Anglican Communion within the Church of God, in the Province of Canterbury and Diocese of Ely, the Archdeaconry of Cambridge and the Granta Deanery. For over 600 years St Mary's has been Great Shelford's parish church, and our present building is by no means the first to have stood on this serious earth and holy ground. Though we are sited towards the edge of the village, next door to our Church school, we aspire to be a church at the heart of the community and with the community at its heart. The parish is in interregnum since June 2011. Accordingly much is being maintained. The worship pattern is mainstream Anglican in the liberal (affirming) catholic tradition, with a judicious balance of Word and Sacrament through a strong preaching ministry and a rich devotional life. All churches claim to be friendly, but hospitality is truly central to our ministry. As the poster in our church porch declares: if you are curious and have come to see; if you are weary and have come to rest; if you are grateful and have come to give thanks; if you are hurting and have come for comfort; if you are listening and have come to pray; if you are seeking and have come for answers - we welcome you in Christ's name. The ministry team comprises two Licensed Lay Ministers, Mrs Maureen Dobson and Mr Nick Pett; and our Churchwardens, Mr Richard Townsend and Mrs Mary Lester. There is no Deanery Pastoral Plan but it may be that the parish will be linked in some form of joint benefice with a nearby parish.
